Introduction
Mearns and Heddle’s main operating sectors are within construction, namely in the built heritage sector however contracts are carried out within the newbuild and renewables sectors also. Our customer base is varied including sub-contracting for large scale construction companies, local authorities and private clients. Our aim is to deliver a quality, cost efficient product within the agreed time scales. We recognise our biggest asset is our employees and training is an integral part of our business to allow them to maximise their potential
Quality Management
We recognise that quality work carried out to the highest standards achievable is the only way a business can flourish. In order to achieve this adequate time and resources must be allocated at tender stage to allow this to be achieved with all our staff afforded a chance to comment on a project’s needs prior to start to ensure a smooth transition from tender to live job. All our projects are overseen by a director with them ensuring all staff are aware of the expectations of a project and eventually a final sign off upon completion to ensure that the customers needs and expectations are exceeded. Throughout larger projects regular updates will be given to the clients in the form of reports highlighting timescales, budgets and if any project issues
Tender Stage
Every effort is made at tender stage to accurately provide costs in a detailed, clear and concise manner to the customer ensuring that all expectations are met. We recognise that projects are a living entity and changes occur, we ensure that any changes are clearly detailed at the earliest opportunity and our clients are made aware and involved from the earliest opportunity.
Programming
We recognise the importance of programming within a project and how this affects other factors and stakeholders in a project. We shall provide detailed programmes for each of our projects and these will be shared with employees and clients ensuring key milestones are met. Regular updates of these programmes will ensure that the project runs in a timely manner
Defect Management
It is our intention to eliminate defective work by regularly monitoring quality as the project progresses, responsibility for this lies with all our employees and overseen by the allocated director. Where there is an instance of defective work found this will be remedied as soon as practically possible and final sign off completed
Completion of projects
Following completion of a project a final meeting is to be held with all stakeholders to ensure all works are off an agreed standard, the site is cleaned beyond an acceptable standard. The allocated director will take responsibility to ensure that this is achieved
Standards and regulations
All work carried out will be to the relevant standards and within the current regulations relating to the task. It is the companies responsibility to ensure that these are allowed for at all stages of the project and communicated effectively in a concise manner to all staff
Environmental
We recognise the importance of working in harmony with our surroundings on a project. At all stages of the project allowances will be made to ensure the environment surrounding the project is maintained with adequate time and resources allocated to all staff to ensure this is achieved. We will strive to maintain clear lines of communication with neighbours and other affected parties within a project vicinity. Clear lines of communication will be maintained with all concerned and any concerns/ issues addressed as soon as reasonably practical
Training
We are committed to the training and development of all our employees with opportunities to progress being afforded to senior staff as well as our apprentices. We operate a doors open policy where any employee may be looking for additional support and training throughout their career. As well as offering recognised training course we also offer additional in-house training. The company will also offer time within the regular working week for any training to be carried out to all employees
Onsite Culture
All staff will be expected to behave in a fitting manner whilst on company business. Whilst onsite all staff will be respectful of their surroundings and people affected by the works. Due to the nature of the business a high volume of comments are expected from members of the public and these are to be treated with respect.
Summary
The company was formed to provide a quality service within many sectors and we recognise that the need to implement all the points above is the only realistic way to achieve this. The company is constantly looking for new ways to maintain a quality end product within a clients budget and most importantly of all in a safe manner for all affected. The directors take ultimate responsibility for all quality related matters but expect all employees will adhere to the standards and strive to exceed these.
